Basement work to take place this summer
Posted by Leah Sidebotham, Wednesday 16th May, 2018
We are delighted to announce that for a few weeks from the beginning of June, we will be updating our air handling system in our basement. This is to make our onsite storage facilities even more suitable for housing our diverse and unique collections. Our books and documents are particularly susceptible to deterioration because of the high acidity content of the paper, and therefore require carefully controlled temperature and humidity levels. This is also true of our microfilm and photographic collections which require relative humidity.
During the work, parts of the serial and book collections may be unavailable for a short period. Additionally, there may be some noise disruption during this time from the basement but we will do our best to ensure this is kept to a minimum and will inform you in advance.
With the updated air handling system, we shall be able to control the environmental conditions of our basement archives more effectively and therefore ensure the long-term preservation of our collections. Before you plan your visit, please do speak to our colleagues or email us at email@example.com.
Please report misuse to our Education team.
