The Building Fund
In 2009 the Library will have to leave its home of over 50 years. Securing new permanent accommodation represents one of the largest challenges the Library has faced in its history. Moving to a new building of similar size will cost in the region of £3.5 million, comprising:
- £1.75 million for acquisition
- £0.75 million for refurbishment
- £1.0 million to generate additional income for running costs.
Through generous support from corporate and private donors the Library has succeeded in raising over £1 million so far. A donation to our Building Fund will help to ensure that the Library can continue and improve its mission beyond 2009.
In July 2007, the Library secured a Project Planning Grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The grant has enabled the Library to research and write an Audience Development Plan, exploring potential new users and what services or activities might be appropriate for them. This work has now been completed, and the Library has a good idea of its future audience development priorities, as well as a range of suggested activities to attract a bigger and more diverse audience.
