The Wiener Library, one of the world’s leading and most extensive archives on the Holocaust and Nazi era, has an immediate opening for a graduate student to work on a three month research project. The selected individual will gain a valuable addition to their academic and intellectual CV, as well as an insight into academic research for anyone planning to undertake further study.
The Wiener Library Graduate Fellow will be based at the Wiener Library, using the collections to undertake concentrated research into one topic to be selected from the following:
- Refugees in Britain, with the possibility of drawing comparisons with more recent refugee movements
- Holocaust denial
- Jewish life in western Europe before 1933
- Jewish life in eastern Europe before 1933
- The Jewish Relief Unit
- Survivor Testimony: its value as historical evidence
The Fellow would be expected, as part of their three month fellowship, to produce a series of short web-based texts on their chosen topic to form part of the Wiener Library’s Learning Materials. For examples of existing texts please see www.wienerlibrary.co.uk/wls.aspx
The Fellowship is open to anyone who has completed a first degree in a relevant subject. Applications are encouraged from all subjects and backgrounds.
Applicants should appreciate that a significant quantity of the material held in the Library’s collections is in German, and some knowledge of German is vital. In some of the research topics selected, fluent German will be required. However, basic German may be acceptable for other topics. Please contact the Library to discuss this further if you have any concerns.
The successful applicant will be provided with a maintenance grant of £2,500.
Interested candidates should email an academic CV including TWO references along with a covering letter, detailing relevant experience, their reasons for applying, and their preferred research topic to:
